Ryerson To Play Friday In 25th NPSL Anniversary Game

Ryerson and former Rebel Scott Uderitz were both members of the Cleveland Crunch.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's soccer head coach Rich Ryerson will be reliving one of the greatest moments of his playing career Friday night, as he will be in Cleveland to play in a special reunion game to honor the 25th anniversary of the Cleveland Crunch winning the 1994 NPSL Championship title, the first sports championship for the city since the Cleveland Browns in 1964. The NPSL indoor soccer league was the only professional soccer league in the United States until MLS held its first season in 1996.

Ryerson was one of two former Rebels to play for the 1994 Crunch, as he was joined by Scott Uderitz (1989-92) on the championship squad. The two helped Cleveland top the St. Louis Ambush in the best of five series 3-1, including a 17-15 double-overtime victory in the fourth and clinching contest on April 26, 1994.

"This is a great opportunity to reunite with a lot of players that had a tremendous impact on soccer development in the United States prior to the start of the MLS. We all live as to win national championships, and to be a member of that 1994 team was a very special moment in my playing career."

The charity reunion game will feature members of that 1994 Cleveland squad against other former members of the Crunch team at 7:30 pm (CT) at Rubber City Sports at Goodyear Hall in Cleveland.
