Rebels Drop Game Two At UNR, Silver State Series Up For Grabs Sunday

UNLV's offense stymied in 8-0 five-inning loss Saturday

RENO (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Saturday at UNR (26-22, 9-9) with a 8-0 loss in five innings at Hixson Field. The Rebels will have to wait another day to see if they can capture a second straight Silver State Series win with the rubber match set for Sunday morning at 11 a.m.

With the loss, UNLV fell to 32-14 and 10-9 in Mountain West play. The struggles in game two during league play continued as the Rebels are now 1-6 in the second game of conference series in 2019. Additionally, for the fifth time in seven Mountain West weekends, the series will come down to the third and final game.

The Rebel offense was held to one hit - a first-inning single from Justine Federe - in five innings, marking a new season low, while it was shut out for just the fifth time. A day after picking up the win in relief in game one, junior Charlie Masterson got the start and suffered the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits in 3.0 innings pitched.

THE TURNING POINT:  The two teams were scoreless through two and half innings until the Wolf Pack blew it open with six runs on five hits in the bottom of the third. UNR added a run in the fourth and a run in the fifth to end the game early.

STAT OF THE GAME: The Rebels were run-ruled for just the second time in two years under head coach Kristie Fox. Both have happened during conference play this year.

UP NEXT: The Silver State Series wraps up with the rubber match Sunday at 11 a.m.

REBEL NOTES:
