LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team (3-6) got a pair of 11-kill efforts from
Shelby Capllonch and
Thea Sweder in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Pacific Tigers (6-3) at the Cox Pavilion. The Rebels extended the match to a fourth set, with a win in the third; however, the visiting Tigers claimed the final contest of the UNLV Invitational behind set scores of 25-19, 27-25, 23-25, 25-19.
Pacific outhit UNLV by 76 points (.247 to .171) with help from 20 more kills in 17 more attack attempts (146-129) despite its offense committing six more errors (28-22). Both squads saved their best hitting performances for the fourth frame, with the Tigers posting a .471 efficiency (20-4-34) to the Rebels' .281 (12-3-32).
In addition to the 22 combined kills from Capllonch and Sweder, the Rebels also got nine and seven kills, respectively, from
Macy Smith and
Alison French. The quartet of also provided 12 total blocks and 11 digs in the contest.
Defensively, UNLV notched its second-best showing at the net this season, with 12.0 total blocks (three solo/18 assisted).
REBEL NOTES:
- Capllonch has reached double figures in kills in eight of nine matches this season.
- Sweder, who earned all-tournament team honors, has recorded double figures in kills in four straight matches after only achieving the feat once in the first five contests of the year. This weekend, she had 48 kills against the likes of Idaho, Texas Tech and Pacific.
- Smith had nearly half of her season haul of kills this weekend with 31 – 64 on the year, throwing down a career-best 11 against both Idaho and Texas Tech and nine more versus Pacific.

Mariena Hayden led the Rebels in digs with 15, as she changed into the libero jersey during the third and fourth sets.

UP NEXT: UNLV stays home for two more matches, as it hosts the Rebel Challenge next week. The Scarlet & Gray will welcome the Arizona State Sun Devils and Kansas Jayhawks to the Cox Pavilion for the three-day tournament. The Rebels will play Thursday (ASU/6:30pm) and Saturday (KU/12:00 pm), while Friday (3:30 pm) will feature a bout between the Sun Devils and Jayhawks.
