SATURDAY'S PREVIEW... UNLV (1-2/0-0) opens Mountain West play by traveling to Wyoming (3-1/0-0) for the first time since 2015 and a rare evening date in Laramie ... The Rebels are 13-24 in conference openers all-time and 4-14 when they take place on the road ... UNLV head coach
Tony Sanchez is 3-1 in MW lid-lifters, including winning the only previous one that took place away from Las Vegas (2015 at UNR) ... This will mark the first appearance UNLV has made on ESPNU since 2017 ... UNLV had its first bye of the season last week while the Cowboys suffered their first defeat of the season, 24-21, at Tulsa ... The Rebels currently stand 23rd in the nation with 243.0 rushing yards per game and have eight rushing touchdowns in three games ... UNLV is also tied for third nationally with just 3.0 penalties per game ... Rebel junior
Armani Rogers needs just 12 net yards to move past Wyoming's Brett Smith (1,531 from 2011-13) into 10th place in MW history for rushing yards by a quarterback ... After never having scored more than one touchdown in a collegiate game running back
Charles Williams is averaging two per outing right now after finding the end zone three times in the season opener and then posting one vs. Ark State and another two at Northwestern ... After three games, Williams is the No. 2 rusher in the FBS with 151.7 yards per game, including a career-high 168 vs. the Red Wolves in Week Two ... The junior has already doubled his career 100-yard games total with six, which is tied for the 14th-most in UNLV history.
REBELS vs. COWBOYS NOTES... Wyoming leads this wildly competitive series 12-11 overall ... The Rebels are 4-7 all-time in Laramie with their last win coming there in 2003 ... Since the formation of the MW in 1999, UNLV has averaged an eye-popping 32.3 PPG vs. the Pokes ... The most recent meeting came in 2016 when the Rebels won an epic, three-overtime, 69-66 final that was the third-highest scoring game in FBS history at the time and remains the highest in MW history with 135 total points. The 104 points combined at the end of regulation are tied with one other game (Akron and Eastern Michigan in 2001) for most in FBS history between two teams that went on to play overtime ...  Amazingly, four of UNLV's 15 all-time overtime games have come against WYO -- but all of them took place in Las Vegas (1998, 2002, 2004 & 2016) ... Formerly a series of streaks, UNLV won the first three games by a total of 13 points. WYO then had a four-game winning streak before UNLV's 1999 victory in Laramie sparked a five-game Rebel burst. UW then won every year from 2004-07.
