DES MOINES, Iowa (UNLVRebels.com) -Â UNLV men's soccer nearly rallied from a 3-0 halftime deficit, but came up just short as the Rebels fell on the road at Drake 4-3 Friday night. The Bulldogs improved to 1-2 with the win while UNLV dropped to 0-3, with all three losses coming by just one goal.
Drake became the first Rebel opponent to take a first half lead when it scored in the 9th minute, and would add two more scores in the 26th and 43rd minutes for a 3-0 advantage. The Bulldogs only held a 10-9 edge on shots in the first 45 minutes, but converted all three of their shots on goal into scores.
UNLV started its rally in the second half thanks to a two-goal burst 42 seconds part, off scores from
Bryan Martinez-Serrano (53') and
Timo Mehlich (54'). Drake then scored an insurance goal in the 80th minute to go up 4-2. The Rebels didn't back down, closing within 4-3 in the 84th minute thanks to
Nick Williams, but that would be the final score of the game.
UNLV returns to action with another road game as the Rebels will face Omaha Monday night in a 5 pm (PST) contest.
