LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Â Despite yet another record-setting performance from UNLV senior Rodjanae Wade, who posted the first 20-20 performance in Mountain West tournament history, the fifth-seeded Lady Rebels could not find enough scoring options on offense as they fell to fourth-seed San Jose State 67-48 in the quarterfinal round Monday at the Thomas & Mack Center.
UNLV began the game with an early 12-6 led but the Spartans came back to tie it at the end of the first quarter, and used a 10-0 run near the end of the second to open a 34-17 advantage at halftime.
THE TURNING POINT:Â After Wade scored inside the paint to bring UNLV within 37-32 at the 6:17 mark of the third, UNLV would be held scoreless for the next five minutes, missing five shots, two free throws and turning the ball over four times during that stretch. San Jose State took advantage by scoring 11 straight to open up a 16-point advantage, and UNLV came no closer than 13 the rest of the way. SJSU put the game away with a 14-0 run midway through the fourth for its largest lead of the game at 27.
LADY REBEL OF THE GAME:Â Wade did everything she could to keep UNLV in the contest, as she scored 26 points and grabbed a new MW tournament record 21 rebounds. It was her 21st double-double of the season as well, setting a new UNLV single-season mark, passing Linda Frohlich, and put her in a tie for second in the nation, while also ties the all-time Mountain West season mark as well.Â
STAT OF THE GAME:Â Though UNLV finished with just one more turnover (24) to San Jose State's (23), the Spartans made the Lady Rebels pay for their miscues, with a game-deciding 29-9 advantage on points off turnovers.
