Marusak was responsible for a fourth-inning tally that upped Texas Tech's lead to four. Marusak began the frame by reaching on an error and stealing second before making his way home off a groundout and later a sac fly put in play by Dillon Carter.

Moments after UNLV was able to score off Gamble's groundout in the fifth, the Red Raiders countered with four more runs. Texas Tech pushed across two more in the seventh and one in the eighth to up the lead to 10 – 11-1 – before the Rebels' final at-bat that featured Alex Amelburu knocking in his brother, Gavin, from second base with a single to center field.
