LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - They say not all heroes wear capes. True. Some wear lab coats, scrubs and protective face masks. 

In these unprecedented times, they are fighting along the front lines to win the battle to make us safe. We cheer them on, give our thanks and honor their efforts. Meet one of those heroes now.



Dr. Daniel Diaz is a Sports Medicine Fellow in the UNLV School of Medicine and is UNLV Athletics' Hero of the Week (April. 22).

During the initial month of COVID-19 curbside testing for the UNLV SOM, Dr. Diaz has been instrumental in helping with leadership, administration and mentoring of resident physicians at the testing center, and has also been an invaluable resource for the community. He has also helped with groundwork for the establishment of curbside testing and initial COVID-19 management strategies.

"Dr. Diaz has led the day-to-day operations of the largest outpatient Coronavirus testing center in Nevada," said Dr. Michael Gardner, Vice Dean of Clinical Affairs and UNLV Medicine President/CEO. "He has made multiple improvements to our process enhancing patient satisfaction and employee safety."
