LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Three UNLV men's tennis players were named to the All-Mountain West Conference Team as the league announced a scaled-back version of its annual awards Thursday.
Senior Alex Kobelt (Columbus, Ohio), who transferred to UNLV from powerhouse Ohio State, led the way for the Rebels as he earned all-league nods in both singles and doubles play. Kobelt finished the season with a singles record of 14-5 overall, including 7-2 at the No. 1 position in dual matches. He would have been a strong candidate for MW Player of the Year but the coaches' voted to not award individual honors because of the abbreviated season.
Joining Kobelt on the singles team was fellow-senior Eric Samuelsson (Ahus, Sweden) who was a repeat honoree. The two-time MW Men's Tennis Player of the Week compiled a mark of 11-3 overall and was an impressive 10-1 in the No. 2 position in the lineup.
In doubles, Kobelt and partner Jordan Sauer (Pretoria, South Africa) were selected after posting a 12-5 record, including 9-4 in duals at the top of the lineup. It marked Sauer's first all-conference honor.
As a team, UNLV saw its campaign cut short after earning the first 10-0 start in program history and finished with a record-high win percentage at (.929) with a final mark of 13-1
