LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Two UNLV women's tennis players were two-time members of the 2020 All-Mountain West Conference Team as the league announced its annual awards Thursday.
Junior Izumi Asano (Kasugai, Japan) earned her third straight all-league nod in singles after going 8-6 overall, including 4-3 at the No. 1 spot in dual matches. She was named the MW Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks this spring (Feb. 12 & 19).
Senior En-Pei Huang (Kaohsiung City, Taiwan) was voted to the singles team for the second consecutive season after going 9-8 overall, including 4-3 in duals at the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
The duo also led the All-MW doubles team as Asano and Huang teamed up for a 15-3 overall record, including a perfect 6-0 in duals. The pair won the program's first-ever ITA Regional Doubles championship in the fall and then rose to as high as No. 13 in the nation before finishing ranked 20th.
It marked the first doubles honor for Asano while Huang became just the fourth Rebel to earn a spot on the team for four seasons, joining Aiwen Zhu (2016-19), Kristina Nedletcheva (2007-10) and Marianne Vallin (1994-97).
