LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team lost to Boise State in five sets Thursday night at Cox Pavilion, ending its five-match home win streak.
Fifth-year senior Mariena Hayden led all players with 24 kills and tallied 12 digs for her third double-double of the season. Junior Shelby Capllonch also had a double-double for the Rebels (15-7, 6-5) with 10 kills and a team-high 13 digs. Senior Milica Tasic also was in double digits in kills with 10 as she hit a team-high .381 for the match. Sophomore Arien Fafard led the team with 23 assists.
The Broncos (16-8, 5-6), who came back after falling behind 2-0 after the first two sets, were led by Jordan Miller's 13 kills and Danielle Boss' 42 assists. Chey Jones had a match-high 15 digs and Alyssa Wissinger recorded a match-high nine blocks.
Boise State outhit UNLV .285 to .205 for the match, also recording 63 digs to the Rebels' 57. There were a total of 26 ties and nine lead changes throughout the match.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will remain home for a match Saturday at 1 p.m. against Utah State and another vs. San Diego State on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Halloween will be celebrated against the Aggies with free candy being given away (while supplies last). The match against the Aztecs will be Unity/Student/Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night.

Hayden is No. 1 all-time at UNLV in career service aces (316; 200 ahead of second place) and kills (1,782). She is No. 3 in career digs with 1,299.

UNLV concluded its Spring 2021 season with a record-breaking campaign that saw it win the Mountain West title, going undefeated in regular-season play (12-0) and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The team finished the season 13-1 overall.

UNLV returned nine letterwinners from last season including All-American and MW Player of the Year Mariena Hayden, and All-MW First Team performer Kate Brennan.

Also returning to the squad were Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos, Lauryn Burt, Shelby Capllonch (honorable mention All-MW), Arien Fafard, Jordyn Freeman, Paola Garcia and Paris Oliveira. There are eight newcomers, which include six freshmen and a pair of international student-athletes.

UNLV is led by fourth-year head coach Dawn Sullivan, who was honored following the Spring 2021 season with the MW's Coach of the Year award.

For the first time in program history, the Rebels were predicted to finish atop the MW volleyball standings by the league's 11 head coaches as the preseason poll was released in August. Hayden was chosen as the Preseason Conference Player of the Year.
