Box Score FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV volleyball team defeated Fresno State Thursday night in four sets (25-17, 20-25, 25-14, 25-22) at the Save Mart Center to notch its second win in its last three matches.
Junior Shelby Capllonch led the Rebels (17-8, 8-6 MW) with 16 kills and 23 digs for a double-double, recording season highs in both categories while turning in a .519 hitting percentage. Fifth-year senior Mariena Hayden also had 16 kills, contributing nine digs and six service aces, and senior Kate Brennan had 12 kills with no errors to hit .800 for the match. Sophomore Arien Fafard recorded a team-high 26 assists, while senior Lauryn Burt added 20.
Fresno State (10-11, 6-7 MW) had three players record double figures in kills, led by Desiree Sukhov's 14. Brooke Cowie led the Bulldogs in assists with 22 and Sydney Gazzaniga was the team's digs leader with 10.
UNLV outhit Fresno State .363 to .242 for the match, and was especially impressive in the third set recording 17 kills with no errors for a hitting percentage of .708. The Rebels had 56 kills to the Bulldogs' 49 and led in digs 49-36.
UNLV swept the regular-season series with Fresno State as the Rebels won 3-0 at home against the Bulldogs on Oct. 9.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will have a week between matches as its next contest will be at New Mexico on Thursday, Nov. 11. The Rebels will then travel to Air Force for a match on Saturday, Nov. 13 before returning home to the Cox Pavilion to host San Jose State on Thursday, Nov. 18.
