LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's soccer team concluded the 2021 regular season Saturday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field, falling to Dixie State in a 3-1 contest on Senior Day.
The Rebels (7-11, 3-8) held an early 1-0 lead within the first 10 minutes into the match when senior
Jesus Partida won the one-on-one battle with the Trailblazers' (3-7-1, 4-13-1) goalkeeper to successfully convert his third penalty kick goal of the season.
In spite of UNLV taking a one-goal lead into halftime, Dixie State put up a strong fight in the second half, reeling off three goals - the equalizer in the 59th minute, the go-ahead score in the 87th minute and an insurance goal in the 89th minute - to steal the win.
As part of Saturday's senior send-off, the Rebels honored six seniors -
Matthew Ridley,
Billy Jones,
Aedon Kyra,
Lukas Betz,
Jesus Partida and
Marco Gonzalez - before they took the field in the Scarlet and Gray uniform one last time. They also provided on-field recognition to longtime athletic trainer Bernie Chavies, who retired last year after serving the Rebels' student-athletes for more than three decades.
NEWS & NOTES:
- The Rebels send off one of the best to ever represent the program, as Marco Gonzalez finishes his career ranking seventh all-time in both points (82) and assists (22) in the UNLV record book.
