Gritty Rebels Extend Road Streak Against ORU

UNLV captures 85-81 season-opening win

TULSA, Okla. (UNLVRebels.com) -- UNLV extended its road winning streak to 10 games, matching a program record, as the Lady Rebels defeated Oral Roberts, 85-81, Tuesday night.

Sophomore Desi-Rae Young, a Preseason All-Mountain West Conference Team selection, scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Rebels.

UNLV made its first nine shots and led by as much as 12 in the 1st quarter before ORU crawled back to take a 39-37 lead just before halftime. 

The teams never separated by more than 2 points in the third quarter.

BIG LEAD: The Lady Rebels made their first nine field goals and took a 19-7 lead (12 points) with 5:08 remaining in the first quarter.

STATS OF THE GAME: 11 steals turned into 8 critical second-chance points.

LADY REBEL OF THE GAME: Sophomore center Desi-Rae Young added three blocks to her double-double, matching her career high. 

NOTES:
* After allowing 20 points from the ORU bench in the first half, the Lady Rebels held the Golden Eagles' reserves to just 9 second-half points.
* UNLV led for 70 percent of the game, but had to fight back from a 6-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
* Essence Booker was just 1 point shy of a career high in her debut with the Lady Rebels. The junior guard scored a game-high 21 points.

NEXT FOR THE LADY REBELS: The Lady Rebels' home opener is Saturday, Nov.  13, versus Montana State. Tip-off at the Thomas & Mack Center is 1 p.m. and the game will be televised locally on YurView (COX channel 14).

UNLV Athletics announced Nov. 2 that it will require proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for entry to its basketball games at the Thomas & Mack Center, allowing attendance without a mask. In accordance with the Emergency Directive from Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak regarding large events, medical or religious exemptions and partial vaccinations will not be accepted.
