Rebels Dominate At Home In 3-0 Shutout Win Over San Jose State

For the second time in the last three games Rebels top the Spartans with a second 3-0 shutout

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's soccer team began its three-game homestand with a dominant performance over San Jose State Friday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field, beating the Spartans 3-0 for the second time in their last three games. With the win the Rebels improved to 3-2-1 on the season, while SJSU fell to 0-4-1.

Like the first meeting two weeks ago in San Jose, the Rebels controlled the ball from the first whistle with the UNLV midfield pushing the pace to create several chances up front. That paid off early in the 12th minute when freshman Jaden Terrana chased down the ball on the left side of the box and sent a cross back across the middle to the waiting foot of sophomore Lourdes Bosch, who tapped it into the bottom right net for the 1-0 lead. It was the first goal of the season for Bosch, who was named to the 2019 Mountain West All-Newcomer team, while it was Terrana's first collegiate assist.

After starting the second half with the 1-0 lead, UNLV wasted no time doubling its lead as the Rebels forced a corner just over three minutes into the half. The ball bounced around in the box before landing at the feet of senior Alyssa Granados at the top of the box. Granados quickly found an open Julez Dominguez to her right. Dominguez didn't hesitate, blasting the ball past the SJSU keeper into the left side of the net for the 2-0 lead.

The Rebels put a bow on top of the victory in the 76th minute when Terrana raced up the sidelines with the ball and hit a streaking Nailah Harpring, whose powerful kick found the back right corner for the 3-0 lead with under 15 to play. It was the fifth goal of the season for the freshman Harpring, who notched the program's sixth hat trick and first ever by a freshman in UNLV history in the first win over the Spartans two weeks ago.

The UNLV defense and junior Emberly Sevilla continued to be stout, recording their fourth shutout in six contests this spring.

For the game, the Rebels out-shot the Spartans 18-5, bringing the margin to 37-7 in the two games between the squads. Bosch led the way Friday night with four shots, with Dominguez collecting three and Izzy Perez and Marcella Brooks recording two apiece.

UP NEXT: UNLV will finish out the weekend Sunday with a rematch against Fresno State, who the Rebels fell to 3-2 two weekends ago in Fresno. The Bulldogs dropped their Friday night game at San Diego State and will enter Sunday's match with an identical 3-2-1 record. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
