LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - After a long wait, UNLV women's soccer was finally able to return to Peter Johann Memorial Field for game competition Friday afternoon.
The Rebels, under the direction of first-year head coach and former Rebel Jenny Ruiz-Williams, were strong in their season debut, battling the Mountain West preseason favorite Boise State to a double overtime draw. UNLV's back line clamped down on a Broncos offense that has been the best in the conference as of late, shutting them out through 110 minutes of action. It was the first time since 2011 UNLV had blanked Boise State and just the third shutout by UNLV in 13 all-time meetings between the two programs.
UNLV controlled possession for the majority of the game, registering eight shots and putting the pressure on the Bronco defense with five corner kicks. The Rebels saw five different players record shots, including two each by sophomores Lourdes Bosch and Marcella Brooks.
Junior Emberly Sevilla made the start in goal for the Rebels, collecting five saves in the game.
