Rebels Suffer Sunday Setback To Wolf Pack

UNLV baseball’s Brendan Brooks and Jack-Thomas Wold combined for three hits, three RBI and two runs in Sunday’s 8-3 loss to UNR.

RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team concluded its stay in the northern portion of the Silver State with an 8-3 loss to the UNR Wolf Pack at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park Sunday.

The Mountain West contest was deadlocked at 2-all after the Rebels' fifth-inning at-bat; however, the host Wolf Pack (18-16 overall, 15-9 MW) broke the affair open with two runs in its half of the frame to double up the score, 4-2. After a scoreless sixth, UNR tacked on four insurance tallies over the seventh and eighth to increase its lead to six, 8-2, before UNLV (16-11 overall, 11-10 MW) scored the game's final run in the ninth.

For the second straight day, the Scarlet & Gray was paced by the duo of Brendan Brooks and Jack-Thomas Wold, who combined for three hits, three RBI and two runs. Brooks went 2-for-2, with a home run and three walks, with two runs and one RBI. Wold went 1-for-2, with a double and two walks, and two RBI.

UNLV opened the scoring in the third with a bases-loaded walk issued to Wold after the first three batters – Rylan Charles (single), Brooks (walk) and Diego Alarcon (single) – reached base safely. UNR answered back in the fourth, in a similar fashion, as its first four batters recorded base hits – all singles – to push ahead by a run, 2-1.

The Rebels knotted the score in the fifth off a one-out solo homer from Brooks; however, the stalemate was short lived, as the Wolf Pack was able to load the bases with two outs before it got a pair of runs off an RBI single and a bases-loaded walk to lead by two, 4-2.

UNR upped its lead to three runs, 5-2, off a sacrifice fly in the seventh and to six, 8-2, off a three-run homer in the eighth. Brooks and Wold paired up for the game's final tally, as the former reached base off a single and later scored off a sacrifice fly by the latter.
