LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV running back Charles Williams on Thursday became just the second football player in school history to be voted to a CoSIDA Academic All-District Team more than once in a career.
Williams, nicknamed the Chuck Wagon, will return as a Super Senior this fall and was announced as a member of CoSIDA's District 7 Team for the second consecutive year. The native of Fresno, California, and graduate of Bullard High School, ranks fourth on UNLV's career rushing list with 2,940 yards and needs 739 more to pass all-time leader Tim Cornett.
Williams joined former Rebel wide receiver and current president of the UNLV Football Foundation Casey Flair (2007 and '08) in having earned the district award in back-to-back years.
Named last month as UNLV's Mehdi Bouras Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Williams is pursuing his master's degree in general studies after earning a bachelor's in journalism & media studies in 2020. He has earned a spot on the Mountain West Academic All-Conference Team for three consecutive years and was a member of the Dean's Honors List his last four semesters as an undergraduate.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America teams throughout the year. Players who are starters or important reserves on their teams and are at least in their second year at a school and hold at least a 3.30 career GPA are eligible for the academic awards, which are voted on by sports information directors from across the nation. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, and second-team All-America honorees will be announced this summer.
UNLV's district includes four-year institutions from the states of Texas, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada and Oklahoma
