PROVO, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV doubles team of Jordan Sauer and Jackson Atherton dropped a close Round of 16 match as part of Day 2 action Wednesday at the 2021 ITA Mountain Region Men's Championships being held at the BYU outdoor tennis courts.
 
The Rebel duo, seeded seventh, won their opener using a tiebreaker, 8-7 (4), to get by Jonathan Mascagni and Arjen Kersten of Air Force, but then fell to Matej Panik and Daan Van Dijk of Montana State, 8-6. UNLV's other remaining doubles team, Zach Garner and Tom Ciszewski, fell in the Round of 32, 8-4 to sixth-seeded Eban Straker-Meads and Facundo Tumosa of NAU.
 
A trio of Rebels did win their first single match in consolation play, however, and there is one singles and one doubles UNLV entry still alive for Thursday.
 
More than 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country. In Division I, regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending ITA National Fall Championships.
