LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -Â The UNLV volleyball team (12-3, 3-1) bested the Aztecs from San Diego State (4-11, 2-2) in four sets Saturday afternoon at the Cox Pavilion.
The Rebels dominated in the first and second set by scores of 25-15 and 25-19, before falling to SDSU during the third set 27-25. The Aztecs took the lead early on the fourth frame until the Scarlet & Gray came back swinging to end it 25-22. Â
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Junior Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos posted a match-high 20 kills and 22 points. Â
UNLV was led by double-digit outings from Jhenna Gabriel with a match-high 36 assists and freshman Maya Sand's match-high 11 digs.Â
The hitting contest went to the Rebels as it outhit the Aztecs .331 to .222. Arretche-Ramos's .455 hitting percentage and redshirt-junior Isabel Martin's .333 hitting percentage made the duo the squad's leaders in attack efficiency.Â
UP NEXT:Â The Rebels will hit the road again to take on MW rivals New Mexico and Air Force next week. The weekend will begin in Albuquerque, New Mexico Thursday, October 6 at 5:30 p.m. (PT), followed by a trip to the Rocky Mountain State to take on Air Force Saturday, October 8 at 12 p.m. (PT).

- Dating back to 2019, UNLV has gone 69-15 in its last 84 matches. The Rebels have won 12 of 15 matches this season and 38 of its last 47.
- UNLV returned eight letterwinners this season. Also returning to the squad from last season were Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos, Arien Fafard, Jordyn Freeman, Chloe Thomas, Isha Knight, Keyana Cruse, Dakota Quinlan, Livvy Setla, Isabel Martin and Thea Sweder. There are eight newcomers, which include three freshmen, a trio of transfers and a pair of graduate transfers.
- UNLV is led by fifth-year head coach Dawn Sullivan, who looks to guide her squad to the postseason for the fifth straight season.Â
- Junior Arien Fafard had her 1,000th career assist during the opening weekend of the Rebels' 2022 campaign at UNT.Â
- The Rebels defeated No. 19 Kansas on September 10, 2022, making that the second win over a ranked team since 2016. The first being then No. 25 Washington State during the fall 2021 season at the Rebel Challenge (Sept. 4, 2021).Â
