ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's soccer (3-9-3, 1-3-3) team saw its two-match point streak halted Thursday evening in a 1-0 setback to New Mexico (5-3-6, 3-1-3) at the UNM Soccer Complex.
The Rebels withstood a furious first-half attack by the Lobos, who launched 13 shots in the opening 45 minutes, to keep the match scoreless at the stoppage. Despite the stout Scarlet & Gray defense, UNM broke through right after the halftime break with a 47th-minute goal that went on to decide the outcome.
In the 80th minute, UNLV almost had a ball fall its way when sophomore
Kennedi Schmidt deflected senior
Jules Dominguez's cross from the left side to force Lobo goalkeeper Alli Davis to lay out for the save near the left post. It was the last of the squad's five shots on goal on the night, two of which were off the foot of Schmidt.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Riley Liebsack matched her conference-season-high save total with seven stops for the Scarlet & Gray on a busy night in which she faced 22 UNM shot attempts - eight of which were on target.
