LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team (17-3, 8-1 MW) defeated the current Mountain West leader San Jose State (15-5, 9-1 MW) in a well-fought, four-set battle Thursday evening at Cox Pavilion. This win marked head coach Dawn Sullivan's 100th win with the Rebel volleyball program.
There were a total of 42 tie scores and 16 lead changes throughout the match. The Spartans took the first set by a score of 32-30, before the Scarlet & Gray came back to take the next two frames by scores of 25-19 and 25-21. The fourth set had 19 tie scores and 11 lead changes, but Rebels were able to come out victorious with a score of 39-37.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Redshirt-junior Isabel Martin had a match-high 20 kills and tacked on 16 digs and 22.5 points.
UNLV was led by Jhenna Gabriel's double-digit outing with a match-high 41 assists and 17 digs.
The hitting contest went to UNLV as they outhit SJSU .284 to .179, although the Spartans out killed the Rebels 66 to 59. Ellease Crumpton's .435 hitting percentage and sophomore Dakota Quinlan's .400 made the duo the squad's leaders in attack efficiency.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will head north to Reno to play against UNR Saturday, October 22 at 1 p.m.

- Dating back to 2019, UNLV has gone 74-15 in its last 89 matches. The Rebels have won 17 of 20 matches this season and 43 of its last 52.
- UNLV returned eight letterwinners this season. Also returning to the squad from last season were Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos, Arien Fafard, Jordyn Freeman, Chloe Thomas, Isha Knight, Keyana Cruse, Dakota Quinlan, Livvy Setla, Isabel Martin and Thea Sweder. There are eight newcomers, which include three freshmen, a trio of transfers and a pair of graduate transfers.
- UNLV is led by fifth-year head coach Dawn Sullivan, who looks to guide her squad to the postseason for the fifth straight season.
- Junior Arien Fafard had her 1,000th career assist during the opening weekend of the Rebels' 2022 campaign at UNT.
- The Rebels defeated No. 19 Kansas on September 10, 2022, making that the second win over a ranked team since 2016. The first being then No. 25 Washington State during the fall 2021 season at the Rebel Challenge (Sept. 4, 2021).
