LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — If the Lady Rebels needed a tune-up before the 2022-23 season starts, it was hard to tell.

UNLV women's basketball defeated Division II Chico State 114-53 Wednesday night in an exhibition game at the Cox Pavilion. The Lady Rebels made 14 of their first 15 field goal attempts and had six players score before the Wildcats converted their second bucket.

UNLV shot 55 percent from the field and 47 percent (14-30) from 3-point range.

Sophomore guard Alyssa Durazo-Frescas led all scorers with 21 points. Durazo-Frescas, who set UNLV's single-season 3-point record as a freshman, buried a trey on the first play of the game. She was 7-of-11 from the field and 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Justice Ethridge scored 15 points, Nneka Obiazor added 14 and four Lady Rebels counted eight. Sophomore center Alyssa Brown recorded the game's lone double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and a game-high five assists in 22 minutes on the court.

An announced crowd of 561 was greater than the Lady Rebels' average home attendance last season. 

UNLV led 38-3 after 10 minutes, 71-28 at halftime and 96-37 at then end of the third period.

Impressively for its first outing, UNLV turned the ball over only five times and rebounded 88 percent of Chico State's missed shots.

The Lady Rebels open the regular season Monday, Nov. 7, against Pepperdine. Tip-off is 5:15 p.m. at the Cox Pavilion.
