Runnin' Rebels Blow Out Life Pacific 126-54 Saturday Night

72-point win over NAIA school improves UNLV men's basketball's record to 7-0 for first time in 11 years.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Five Runnin' Rebels scored in double figures led by Karl Jones' double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds as the UNLV men's basketball team (7-0) defeated Life Pacific, a NAIA school from San Dimas, Calif., 126-54, Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Runnin' Rebels remained perfect through seven games, marking their best start to a season in 11 years.

Jackie Johnson III added 14 points, Keshon Gilbert scored 13, Jordan McCabe contributed 12 and David Muoka had 11 as 14 of the 15 Runnin' Rebels scored in the contest.

The game counted in UNLV's record but was an exhibition contest for the Warriors (7-0, 1-0 Golden State Athletic Conference), who were led by Albert Matute's 13 points and Kofi Aboagye's 10 rebounds.

SHOOTING PERCENTAGES: UNLV shot 61.9% (52 of 84) from the floor and 57.7% (15 of 26) from 3-point range, while holding LPU to just 28.8% (19 of 66) from the field and 25.0% (7 of 28) on 3-pointers.

FORCING TURNOVERS: UNLV, which entered the game ranked fourth in the country in turnovers forced with 22.5 per game, made Life Pacific commit 23 for the game. The Runnin' Rebels also recorded 14 steals and had nine blocks.

DOMINATION ON THE BOARDS: UNLV doubled up LPU on the boards, outrebounding the Warriors 58-29 for the game.

SHARING THE BALL: UNLV turned in assists on 32 of its 52 made field goals.

QUOTABLE: "Really proud of the guys for being locked in and competing together. In a situation like that, having 32 assists off 52 field goals, We are proud of them for having good spacing, sharing the ball and making plays for each other. I thought they did a really good job of that and it was really fun to see Karl have that opportunity to go out and score 20 points with 12 rebounds - watching him have fun out there, because he deserves it. He's been working with everybody every day, so it was fun to be able to see him have fun like that." - UNLV head coach Kevin Kruger.

OTHER NOTES: 
- McCabe made 4 of 5 3-pointers, while dishing out eight assists and only committing one turnover.
- UNLV only had 11 turnovers for the game.
- Jones also had three blocked shots.
- UNLV led in points off turnovers 27-8.
- The Runnin' Rebels outscored the Warriors in the paint, 70-14.
- UNLV had 21 second-chance points to LPU's eight.
- The Runnin' Rebels had 27 fast-break points.
- UNLV's bench outscored Life Pacific's 76-20.
- UNLV led 65-36 at the half, and outscored LPU 61-18 over the final 20 minutes.
- UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,168 straight games.



NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN' REBELS: UNLV will have a week between games with its next action being its first true road contest of the year - at San Diego on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.
