Lady Rebels Romp San Jose State 104-63

UNLV shoots 61 percent from the field to extend winning streak to 12 consecutive games

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — It wasn't 90s day at the Thomas & Mack Center but the Lady Rebels were all that and a bag of chips.

Four Lady Rebels reached double-digit scoring by halftime as UNLV (22-4 overall, 14-1 Mountain West) cruised past San Jose State (4-22, 1-14) 104-63 Saturday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center.

UNLV won its 12th consecutive game and reached a 22-4 overall record for the first time since the 1992-93 season. It's 104 points and 28 assists were the most UNLV has counted since March 1994.

"This type of game shows you the type of depth that we have," UNLV head coach Lindy La Rocque said. "It shows you why our starters are so good.

"A lot of people work every single day and may not get minutes in the games. They got some of the spotlight tonight, which was really deserving."

Justice Ethridge led all scorers with a season-high 18 points. Essence Booker added 16, Desi-Rae Young scored 15, while Khayla Rooks and Nneka Obiazor contributed 13 apiece.

Keyana Wilfred scored a season-high nine points, hitting four of five field goals.

UNLV shot 61 percent from the field and 60 percent from 3-point range. Six bench players combined for 37 points.

The victory ensures UNLV of a top three finish in the Mountain West's regular season standings. With three games to play, the Lady Rebels control their destiny as a No. 1 seed for the conference tournament.

"We understand that we're playing well," UNLV head women's basketball coach Lindy La Rocque said, "yet we still have areas to improve. You want to be playing your best basketball at this point in the year. And we're pretty close."

UNLV is on the road next week, playing at Wyoming on Thursday, Feb. 24, and Colorado State on Saturday, Feb. 26.

STRICT PARENTING: The Lady Rebels gave almost no second chances to San Jose State. The Spartans scored only four points (one 3-pointer and one free throw) off 11 offensive rebounds. UNLV sent San Jose State to timeout in the second half as the Spartans failed to grab a single offensive board in the last 20 minutes.

START ME UP: UNLV's 22-4 start is its best since the 1992-93 season when the Lady Rebels (24-7, 15-3 Big West) reached 22 wins before suffering a fifth loss.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Four UNLV players reached double-digit scoring by halftime. It was just the second game this season five Lady Rebels reached double-figure scoring (Nov. 20, 2021, vs. Southern Utah).

BENCH MAX: All seven UNLV reserves played and combined for 37 points and 57 percent field goal shooting.

LIFE'S A BEACH: UNLV had not reached 104 points in a non-exhibition contest since defeating Long Beach, 108-81, in the Big West Tournament on March 9, 1994. UNLV's 28 assists were its most since counting 35 against Long Beach on Feb. 25, 1994.
