Williams Winds Up Weekly Award Winner

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV baseball's Edarian Williams was named the Mountain West's Player of the Week following the Rebels' three-game, nonconference series win over Cal Poly at Earl E. Wilson Stadium this past weekend. 

This is the first weekly honor for the junior from Las Vegas, he was also named to the 2022 MW All-Conference Preseason Team on Feb. 10.

Williams started in all three contests at second base against the Mustangs. He was a key player in Sunday's deciding game of the series, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs and five RBI for the Rebels, including his first homer of the season. Williams was just one double shy of the cycle. 

The Rancho High School graduate batted .428 over the weekend (6-for-14) with six hits, six RBI and four runs. Defensively, he had a near perfect fielding percentage with 12 putouts and eight assists.

In Friday night's contest, he went 2-for-5 at the plate with one double, he also tacked on six putouts and two assists. During Saturday's game, he went 1-for-5 with one run and one RBI. 

Williams is the second Rebel to earn MW Weekly Honors this season, joining teammate Gianni Horvat who was recognized by the conference as Freshman of the Week Feb. 28 after the Rebels' perfect weekend on the road. 

UP NEXT: Williams and the Rebels continue the six-game homestand with a two-game series against Utah Valley at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, first pitch is scheduled for Monday night at 6:05 p.m.
