LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV Super Senior long snapper
Rex Goossen is one of 25 players on the
2022 Patrick Mannelly Award Watch List, which was unveiled Monday by award organizers.
Named after former Duke University and longtime Chicago Bears long snapper Patrick Mannelly, the award goes to college football's top player at the special teams position each year.
Goossen (Scottsdale, AZ/Brophy College Prep), who was also on 2021's Watch List, enters his final fall looking to regain his spot as the Rebels' top long snapper after suffering a season-ending injury late last year. The two-time Academic All-Mountain West team member came to Las Vegas after stops at Arizona and Scottsdale Community College. He already earned his bachelor's degree in management from UNLV and is pursuing a certificate in college sports leadership.
Created just a few years ago, the Mannelly Award went to Pitt's Cal Adomitis in 2021, Alabama's Thomas Fletcher in 2020 and Notre Dame's John Shannon in 2019. It benefits Bernie's Book Bank, a non-profit organization located in Lake Bluff, Illinois. The 10 semifinalists will be announced November 14 and those names will be narrowed to three finalists November 28 with this year's winner revealed December 10.
