ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) -- UNLV women's soccer was defeated by No. 6 Rutgers, 5-1, Sunday morning to close out the Lobo Invitational in their neutral site contest at the UNM Soccer Complex.
Freshman
Cadence Whitley put the Rebels (0-2) on the board in the 76th minute with her first career goal to cut their deficit to the Scarlet Knights (2-0) to 4-1. Whitley's score provided the first goal in the second half for either team, as UNLV and Rutgers played to a 1-1 tally - including the Scarlet & Gray's close seven shots compared to eight for the Scarlet Knights - during the final 45 minutes of play.
The Rebels now return to Peter Johann Memorial Field for their home opener vs. Grand Canyon on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT to kick off a six-game homestand.
