SAN JOSE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) — The Lady Rebels get to chalk a new accomplishment on the board. UNLV started Mountain West play 5-0 for the first time in its history after its 84-58 win at San Jose State Wednesday night.
Essence Booker scored a season-high 22 points to lead four Lady Rebels in double figures.
Desi-Rae Young collected her third-consecutive double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Alyssa Durazo-Frescas hit four 3-pointers for 14 points.
Alyssa Brown hit all six free-throw attempts for 13 points and added a game-high five assists.
Durazo-Frescas started the game by hitting three consecutive 3-pointers to put the Lady Rebels in front. UNLV would not lose the lead as it shot a season-high 56 percent from the field.
UNLV scored 40 points off 23 Spartan turnovers.Â
UNLV led 20-19 after the first period and held SJSU scoreless through the first six minutes of the second, taking a 39-30 lead at halftime.
Not satisfied with their lead, the Lady Rebels turned on the pressure in the third period. UNLV outscored SJSU 24-12 in the third period, finishing the quarter with a 12-0 scoring run after forcing six turnovers on the Spartans last seven possessions. Booker, starting at point guard for the first time in four games, scored half of her team's offense. She hit all four field-goal attempts and was 3-for-3 at the line in the period.
UNLV swept its three-game road trip in California. It earned its first 5-0 start to conference play since the 1993-94 season when it was a member of the Big West Conference.
UNLV returns to Las Vegas to host New Mexico on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m. and Boise State on Monday, Jan. 16, at 8 p.m.
