Runnin' Rebels Lose Heartbreaker In OT To CSU, 82-81

EJ Harkless scored 26 of his career-high 33 points after halftime Saturday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team (12-5 overall, 1-4 Mountain West) lost in heartbreaking fashion Saturday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center to Colorado State in overtime, 82-81.

EJ Harkless scored 26 of his career-high 33 points after halftime, while Justin Webster added 15 points and Luis Rodriguez contributed 12.

CSU (10-9, 2-4) was led by Isaiah Stevens' 33 points, while three other Ram players also scored in double figures.

END OF REGULATION AND OVERTIME: UNLV held a four-point lead with eight seconds left in regulation and another four-point advantage with 35 seconds to go in overtime. Stevens made two 3-pointers during each of those times to defeat the Runnin' Rebels.

HOW OT WAS FORCED: UNLV led by three with two seconds left in regulation after Harkless made two free throws. Stevens took the inbounds pass and his two-handed overhead 3-point try from well beyond the arc banked in at the buzzer.

HOW CSU WON IT: After Jordan McCabe made one of two free throws to give UNLV an 81-79 lead with 16 seconds left in overtime, Stevens made the game-winning 3-pointer with four seconds left. Harkless' 3-point try as time expired was off the mark.

OTHER NOTES:
- Stevens was 12 of 22 from the field, including 8 of 16 on 3-pointers with nine assists, eight rebounds and two steals.
- Harkless was 10 of 20 from the field and 11 of 13 on free throws, while he grabbed a game-high-tying nine rebounds with three assists and two steals.
- CSU shot 56.5% (13 of 23) in the first half, including 50.0% (6 of 12) on 3-pointers, and finished the game at 50.8% (31 of 61) and 43.8% (14 of 32), respectively.
- UNLV shot 38.5% from the field (25 of 65) and 32.0% on 3-pointers (8 of 25).
- Webster was 5 of 10 from the field, including 3 of 5 on 3-pointers.
- UNLV had 23 more attempts at the free throw line than CSU did (31-8), outscoring the Rams by 17 at the charity stripe (23-6).
- The Runnin' Rebels grabbed 13 offensive rebounds and outscored CSU in second-chance points 11-3.
- UNLV forced 20 CSU turnovers, marking the 10th game this season that a UNLV opponent has made 20 or more miscues in a game.
- UNLV recorded 10 steals, marking the 9th time this season it has had double figures in swipes.
- Keshon Gilbert also had nine rebounds.
- UNLV led by as many as 10 early in the game.
- There were nine lead changes and 12 ties throughout.
- It was UNLV's second overtime game of the season - both losses in conference play.
- Legendary "Voice of the Rebels" Dick Calvert was honored during the game with a banner in the rafters unveiled, which commemorated his 52 years of serving as the public address announcer.
- UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,178 straight games.

NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN' REBELS: UNLV will head out on the road for two Mountain West games next week - at Utah State on Tuesday, Jan. 17 and at Fresno State on Saturday, Jan. 21.
