Lady Rebels Crush UNR In First-Ever Sellout

Young drops 23 as UNLV handles Wolf Pack, 80-57

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — The Lady Rebels received the audience they asked for and then put on their best show of the season Saturday at the Cox Pavilion.

Desi-Rae Young scored 23 points to lead five Lady Rebels in double-digit scoring as UNLV (20-2 overall, 10-0 Mountain West) overwhelmed UNR, 80-57, in front of the program's first-ever sellout crowd.

"I don't think there was an empty seat. I didn't see one," UNLV Head Coach Lindy La Rocque said. "I'm really thankful and proud of how Vegas showed up. Our team deserves this and I think they showed that.

"We have a great product; it's hard not to enjoy it."

The noise from the 2,500 in attendance may have been the only thing to rattle the women in Scarlet. UNR jumped to a 10-3 lead before Alyssa Brown scored six straight points, hitting a 3-pointer and then earning a layup and-1. Kiara Jackson buried a 3 on the final possession of the first period to give UNLV a lead it wouldn't surrender.

The shots kept falling as UNLV raced away behind a 13-2 scoring run. Six Lady Rebels counted points from beyond the arc and UNLV finished the game 43 percent from 3.

Young grabbed 12 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season, the eighth most among all Division I players.

"Yeah, I felt it," Young said of the capacity crowd. "I was kind of nervous, though, I'm not going to lie. They were really packed in today. We loved it."

Frontcourt mate Brown recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Justice Ethridge and Alyssa Durazo-Frescas each had 12 points while Essence Booker scored 11.

UNLV proved to be the aggressor throughout the content. Led by a 7-for-7 free-throw performance by Young, the Lady Rebels connected on 18 of 21 attempts at the line. UNR was just 5-of-9 on free throws.

"We control the things we can control," Young said. "We can't control what the refs may call, but we can crash the boards, we can dive on the floor for a ball."

UNLV had a plus-12 rebounding margin and outscored UNR 20 to 4 on second-chance points.

The Lady Rebels have a tough road trip ahead with visits to New Mexico and Air Force, who both captured big wins Saturday, up next week.

"We have a motto that every game is the biggest game of the year," Young said. "We try to embrace that."
