EJ Harkless Named MW Men's Basketball Player Of The Week For The Third Time

Senior guard averaged 23 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in two wins last week.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV senior EJ Harkless was named the Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league announced Monday. He had previously been selected for the honor on November 21 and January 9.

Harkless led the Runnin' Rebels to two home wins last week - 86-72 over Wyoming on Tuesday and 68-62 against intrastate rival UNR on Saturday, averaging 23.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and a steal per game in an average of 30 minutes per contest.

Originally from San Bernardino, California, Harkless, a 6-foot-3-inch guard who transferred to UNLV from Oklahoma, led all scorers against Wyoming with 28 points as he shot 8 of 15 from the field and collected a game-high-tying eight rebounds.

Against the Wolf Pack, he again led all scorers with 18 points, while grabbing a season-high-tying and team-high nine rebounds. He also dished out five assists and recorded two steals. With 37 seconds remaining in the game and UNR having a chance to tie, Harkless took a charge which ended up being a critical play in the win.

The Runnin' Rebels have won two straight games after dropping four in a row.

NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN' REBELS: UNLV will head back out on the road for a game at Colorado State on Tuesday, Jan. 31. The 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT contest will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
