LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – In the highest-scoring match at Peter Johann Memorial this season, the UNLV women's soccer team earned a 3-3 draw vs. New Mexico on Sunday afternoon.
Graduate students
Kitty Jones-Black, who had her first career two-goal game, and
Jules Dominguez each found the back of the net as the Rebels (6-5-6, 2-3-3) overcame two separate one-goal deficits against the Lobos (5-4-5, 2-3-3).
Despite playing with a one-player disadvantage during the final 16 minutes as a result of a red card, the Scarlet & Gray managed to score twice via Jones-Black's successful penalty kicks in the 81st minute and 83rd minute. The pair of scores, which were preceded by a foul drawn by
Trinity Buchanan and a Lobo handball, gave Jones-Black her first career four-point match.
In response to UNM opening the scoring in the 18th minute, Dominguez sent a low rolling ball toward the left side of the net from the top of the box in the 21st minute to tie things up at 1-1. Dominguez's first score of the season - and the fifth of her career - came off freshman
Cassie Villanueva's team-best fourth assist this year.
Notwithstanding UNLV's second-half outburst, the Lobos evened things up in the 84th minute and the score remained equal for both sides the rest of the way.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will make a trip north to Logan, Utah, for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff on Thursday at Utah State.
NOTES:
- The six goals are the most combined goals between UNLV and its opponent at Peter Johann Memorial Field since the 2019 season.
- It was the first time at least six goals were scored on the Rebels' home pitch since they combined for seven with Colorado State on Oct. 27, 2019.
