Closing out its only back-to-back road trips this fall, UNLV (6-2/3-1) heads to New Mexico (3-5/1-3) for a Mountain West matchup late Saturday afternoon ... The game will be streamed via the Mountain West Network and shown live in Southern Nevada via the Silver State Sports & Entertainment Network (SSSEN), which is available on Cox channel 125 and over the air at 5.2 ... The Rebels are bowl-eligible for the first time since playing in the Heart of Dallas Bowl after the 2013 season ... UNLV saw its five-game win streak snapped, 31-24, at Fresno State on Saturday while the Lobos fell 34-24 at UNR ... The last time UNLV won at least six of its first eight games was 1984 when Randall Cunningham lined up at QB ...
Barry Odom became the first UNLV head coach to win six of his first seven games at the school since Ron Meyer started 6-1 in 1973 when the program was on the D-II level ... The Rebels opened 3-0 in conference play for the first time since a 4-0 start in the Big West during the 1994 campaign ... UNLV has started 4-0 at home for the first time since John Robinson's 2000 squad went 6-0 at Sam Boyd Stadium ... Odom was also just the second Rebel coach to win his first three conference games since the program first joined a league in 1982 (Jeff Horton in 1994 as part of the Big West) ... The Rebels already set program records for 40+point games for both consecutive outings (four) and in a season (five) ... UNLV's current total of 23 rushing touchdowns is tied with Kansas State for fourth in the nation ... Saturday's game will feature two of the best red-zone offense teams in the country as the Lobos rank 16th at 92.6% (25-of-27) and the Rebels sit 23rd at 91.4% (32-of-35) ... Despite a season-high four turnovers at Fresno State last time out, UNLV is currently tied for 13th nationally in turnover margin at plus-seven -- powered by a dozen interceptions (T5th nationally) ... The Rebels lead the MW and sit sixth nationally in third-down conversion rate at 52.6%.Â
REBELS vs. LOBOS NOTES...Â
UNLV's 31-20 comeback win over UNM in Las Vegas last fall gave the Rebels a 14-12 all-time lead in the series ... The Rebels have taken eight of the last 11 vs. the Lobos, including three straight in ABQ ... Half of the last 16 games played between these two programs have been decided by seven points or less ... These schools played five straight seasons (1978-82) when UNLV first thought itself headed to the Western Athletic Conference ... UNM special teams coordinator/RBs coach Jamie Christian coached UNLV's RBs in 2015-16.
