DENVER (UNLVRebels.com) – Behind its trio of top-25 finishers, UNLV women's golf finished seventh after Sunday's final round at Denver's Ron Moore Intercollegiate at Highlands Ranch Golf Club (Par 72 - 6,648 yards).
Sophomore
Thienna Huynh and junior
McKenzi Hall each paced the Rebels in a tie for 21st at 1-under for the tournament, while graduate student
Maria Jose Martinez tied for 25th at even par. They were followed in the Scarlet & Gray lineup by graduate student
Maria Fernanda Martinez (+3) in a tie for 37th and sophomore
Mayumi Umezu (+8) in a tie for 55th.
As a team, UNLV shot below par for the second time in three rounds with a final-round 4-under on the way to a 4-under 860 final scorecard.
Earning the team victory, No. 21 Cal carded a final-round 8-under and overtook the runner-up Pioneers (-20) by one shot at 21-under through 54 holes. In a close battle on the individual side, Kansas' Jordan Rothman (-11) shot a final-round 6-under to edge Denver's Anna Zanusso (-10) by one stroke.
UP NEXT: The Rebels continue fall play in two weeks when they send their lineup to San Marcos, Texas, for Texas State's Jim West Challenge, being held from Sunday-Monday, Oct. 22-23. They will also send select individuals to compete in the local Battle at Boulder Creek in Boulder City from Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 22-24.
