Lady Rebels Dominate In Exhibition Win Over Cal State LA, 95-59

Desi-Rae Young and Alyssa Durazo-Frescas both record double-doubles Wednesday night at Cox Pavilion.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Three players scored in double figures as the UNLV women's basketball team defeated Cal State Los Angeles, 95-59, in an exhibition contest Wednesday night at the Cox Pavilion.

The Lady Rebels were led by Desi-Rae Young's double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Alyssa Durazo-Frescas also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kiara Jackson scored 17 and led the team in assists with seven. The trio shot a combined 59% from the field (23 of 39).

The Golden Eagles were led by Gabrielle Rones' 10 points, while Lily Buggs and Alicia Jones both scored eight.



BIG EARLY RUN: Leading by a point with 5:43 left in the first quarter, the Lady Rebels ended the period on a 22-0 run to take a 32-9 lead. UNLV increased its advantage to 54-29 at the half. UNLV led by as many as 47 points in the fourth quarter.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV outscored CSLA in points in the paint, 58-18, and shot 50% from the field for the game (39 of 78).

DEFENSIVE EFFORT: The Lady Rebels held the Golden Eagles to just 16.7% shooting in the first quarter (3 of 18), and 33.8% for the game (24 of 71).

QUOTABLE: "It was great to have our team out in uniform and have fans in the stands again. I thought our team performed well. We did a lot of really nice things. Scoring 95 points, not mad about that. Still a lot of things out there that we can clean up and fix, and we are going to, but for game one I'm happy." - UNLV head coach Lindy La Rocque

OTHER NOTES: 
- UNLV out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 60-31 for the game, tallying 17 offensive rebounds, which it turned into 24 points.
- UNLV recorded assists on 24 of its 39 made field goals.
- The two-time defending Mountain West champion Lady Rebels were predicted to win the league title again in the preseason poll.
- The Lady Rebels are receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches' and Associated Press' Top 25 Preseason Polls for the first time in 19 years.
- Desi-Rae Young and Kiara Jackson were both selected to the Preseason All-MW Team.
- Young was also selected to the 20-member watch list for the 2024 Lisa Leslie Award, which goes to the top center in college basketball.
- Amarachi Kimpson was named as the MW's Preseason Co-Freshman of the Year.
