LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's basketball team (8-0) dominated Arizona 72-53 on Saturday evening at the Thomas & Mack Center, marking its first Power 5 opponent win under head Coach
Lindy La Rocque.

Kiara Jackson and
Desi-Rae Young each scored a team-high 21 points. Jackson's 21 points tied her career-high and she shot 9-for-16 from the field. Jackson led the squad in assists with seven. Young was 8-for-16 from the field and brought down nine rebounds.
Alyssa Brown was the squad's leading rebounder with 10 and contributed two steals and a block.
Arizona (6-2) was led by Kailyn Gilbert with 21 points and Esmery Martinez's double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, respectively.

HOT START: The Lady Rebels came out hot right off the jump ball and put up a three-pointer to capture the lead. UNLV shot 52.9% from the field and had a nine-point lead just after the first quarter, 22-13. The Lady Rebels held the Wildcats to only seven points in the second quarter and was up by double-digits going into the half, 40-20.

DEFENSIVE EFFORT: Arizona had averaged 71 points per game over its first seven games of the season, but UNLV held the Wildcats to just 53 points for the game. The Lady Rebels only allowed the Wildcats to shoot 37.5% from the field and 13.3% from long range.

OTHER NOTES
- The last time the Lady Rebels defeated a Power 5 school was during the 2018-19 season at the Duel in the Desert - Rebel Division tournament when UNLV beat Florida 56-53 at the Cox Pavilion.
- UNLV forced 14 Arizona turnovers and scored 16 points off them.
- The Lady Rebels out-rebounded the Wildcats 42-29.
- UNLV shot 43.8% from the field.
- There were no lead changes between the Lady Rebels and Wildcats.
- UNLV had 36 paint points compared to Arizona's 28.
