LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team lost to San Jose State 75-66 at the Thomas & Mack Center Tuesday night.
EJ Harkless led the Runnin' Rebels (16-10 overall, 5-9 Mountain West) in scoring with 19 points, while Keshon Gilbert had 13 and Justin Webster added 12.
The Spartans (16-10, 7-6), who also won this season's earlier meeting, were led by Trey Anderson's 19 points on 5 of 7 3-point shooting. Omari Moore added 14 points and Tibet Gorener had 11.
STATS OF THE GAME: San Jose State made 12 3-pointers and it out-rebounded UNLV 41-29.
TURNING POINT: San Jose State held a two-point lead with under 14 minutes to play and used a 19-7 run to take a 14-point lead with under five minutes to go. UNLV cut its deficit to seven with under 2:30 to play, but couldn't get any closer.
QUOTABLE: "We had good pockets tonight and battled at times, but obviously not enough. We didn't sustain it for long enough stretches to come out on top. We made a good push there in the second half but it just wasn't enough." - UNLV head coach Kevin Kruger.
OTHER NOTES:
- Luis Rodriguez sat out the game because of injury.
- San Jose State shot 51.5% (17 of 33) from the field and 42.9% (6 of 14) on 3-pointers in the first half and led 40-36 at the break. The Spartans finished the game at 48.2% (27 of 56) and 40.0% (12 of 30), respectively.
- UNLV shot 46.9% (15 of 32) from the field in the first half, but only 25.8% (8 of 31) after halftime and finished at 36.5% (23 of 63) and 27.8% (5 of 18) on 3-pointers for the game.
- UNLV forced San Jose State to commit 16 turnovers, scoring 13 points off of them. The Runnin' Rebels had only seven turnovers.
- SJSU's bench outscored UNLV's 24-14.
- UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,187 straight games.
