Huskies Break Through Against Rebels

UNLV returns home this weekend to start Mountain West play against Boise State

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — UNLV held No. 10 Washington at the doorstep for three innings before the Huskies broke through to take the win.

Washington (21-4) defeated UNLV (14-11) 7-1 Tuesday at Husky Softball Stadium. The Rebels scored first before Kelley Lynch shut down the Rebels' bats.

Maddie Schmidt drew a leadoff walk and then stole second. Denise Armendariz smacked a double to plate Schmidt. But Lynch retired 17 of the next 20 batters.

UNLV held its ground as Washington stranded six baserunners through the first three innings. Ellie Zellien struck out SIlentRain Espinoza to escape a bases-loaded jam in the first. Julia Vollmer caught Alana Johnson stealing second before a pair of fly outs ended the second. It was until pinch-running Brooklyn Carter scored UW's first run from third during a fielder's choice at second base.

Four straight singles and a sacrifice fly batted four Washington runners across in the fourth. Jadelyn Allchin hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

UNLV returns home for the first time since Feb. 19 to open the Mountain West schedule. The Rebels host Boise State at Eller Media Stadium starting Friday at 6 p.m.
