RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team overpowered UNR by a score of 11-4 during game one of a three-game Mountain West series Friday night at Peccole Park.
The Scarlet & Gray improved its record to 6-10, 2-2 MW, while the Wolf Pack dropped to 9-9, 1-3 MW.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Jacob Sharp went 2-for-6 at the plate with back-to-back home runs, including a two-run shot for the Rebels.
TURNING POINT: A homer from Sharp and back-to-back RBI singles put the Scarlet & Gray up three runs after the top of the first inning. UNR answered back in the bottom of the frame with a one-run single of their own, before the Rebels scored three more runs off an RBI single and Sharp's two-run homer in the top of the second inning to give them a six-run lead. UNLV increased its advantage to 10-1 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, before a three-run homer from Henry Strmecki cut UNR's deficit to seven.
Noah Beal (1-2) earned his first win of the season after throwing 7.0 innings and allowing two runs on seven hits with a season-high eight strikeouts.
Kade Morris (1-2) suffered his second loss of the season after pitching 4.1 innings and allowing 10 runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts.
UP NEXT: UNLV will continue the series Saturday evening at Peccole Park, with first pitch scheduled for 4:35 p.m.
