RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team defeated UNR in dramatic fashion by a score of 9-5 in 11 innings Sunday afternoon at Greater Nevada Field. The Hustln' Rebels walked away with the series two games to one.
The Scarlet & Gray improved to 7-11, 3-3 MW, while the Wolf Pack dropped to 10-10, 2-4 MW.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Rylan Charles hit a go-ahead home run, a two-run shot, that put the Rebels up for good.
BACK AND FORTH: UNR held a two-run lead going into the top of the fifth inning before the Scarlet & Gray scored four runs on three hits, including a RBI single from Jacob Sharp and a three-run homer from Edarian Williams to take the lead 5-3. The Wolf Pack answered back in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly from Matt Clayton to bring them within one, before a one-run double from Mason Hirata brought in the tying run in the bottom of the sixth.
EXTRA INNING WIN FOR UNLV: With the score tied 5-5 going into the top of the 11th inning, Charles and Sharp each hit two-run home runs to put the Rebels up for good.
Jordan Hanson (1-1) earned his first win of the season for UNLV after throwing 6.0 innings of relief and allowing one run on four hits with a season-high seven strikeouts.
Morgan White (1-2) suffered the loss for UNR after pitching 2.2 innings of relief and allowing two runs on two hits with two strikeouts.
UP NEXT: UNLV will head over to the Golden State for a midweek contest against California Baptist set for Tuesday, March 21 at 5 p.m. The Hustlin' Rebels will return to the friendly confines of Earl E. Wilson Stadium for a three-game Mountain West series against Fresno State, beginning Friday evening at 6:05 p.m.
