Runnin' Rebels Fall In Regular-Season Home Finale To Utah State, 91-66

EJ Harkless led UNLV with 20 points on Senior Night Wednesday at the Thomas & Mack Center.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team lost to Utah State Wednesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center, 91-66. 

It was Senior Night with Cameron Burist, EJ Harkless, Jordan McCabe and Elijah Parquet - the four seniors on the roster whose eligibility will expire at the end of this season - honored during a pregame ceremony. 

Harkless led the Runnin' Rebels (17-12 overall, 6-11 Mountain West) with 20 points, while Shane Nowell added 10 with a career-high nine rebounds.

Utah State (23-7, 12-5) was led by Steven Ashworth, who had 27 points on 10 of 17 shooting, including 5 of 10 3-pointers. He also recorded seven assists and three steals. Max Shulga added 19 points, while Dan Akin had 13 points and three steals. Ashworth and Shulga combined to shoot 8 of 14 on 3-pointers.

STAT OF THE GAME: Utah State shot 73.1% from the field in the second half (19 of 26), including 66.7% on 3-pointers (6 of 9). The Aggies shot 61.8% from the field for the game (34 of 55) and 47.6% on 3-pointers 10 of 21.

SECOND-HALF SPURT: Trailing by 12 with 18 minutes to play, UNLV went on an 8-0 run over a two-minute stretch to cut Utah State's lead to just four. However, the Aggies responded with a 14-1 run to take command. They increased their advantage to over 20 points with less than nine minutes to go.

OTHER NOTES:
- UNLV was again without starter Elijah Parquet because of injury.
- Luis Rodriguez returned after missing the last three games because of injury.
- Utah State outrebounded UNLV 36-29 with 16 of the Runnin' Rebels' boards coming on the offensive end.
- Harkless was 7 of 15 from the field, including 4 of 6 on 3-pointers.
- Utah State scored 32 points off of 17 UNLV turnovers, while the Runnin' Rebels managed just 15 points off of the Aggies' 19 miscues.
- Utah State led in points in the paint, 42-20.
- Utah State led at halftime, 44-32.
- UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,190 straight games.

NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN' REBELS: UNLV will travel to Reno for its regular-season finale on Saturday. The game at UNR is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on Nevada Sports Net and the Mountain West Network. It will also be available in Southern Nevada on the CW as well as Bally Sports So Cal.
