NORMAN, Okla. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team (5-7, 1-2 MW) fell short against the Oklahoma Sooners (7-5) by a score of 11-6 during game one of the two-game series Tuesday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park on the campus of Oklahoma.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Alex Pimentel went 1-for-4 at the plate with a 2 RBI single for the Rebels.
TURNING POINT: The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Sooners scored three runs on four hits and one error. OU increased its advantage to 11-0 going into the top of the ninth inning, but the Rebels were able to answer back in the top of the frame with a pair of back-to-back walks that allowed two runners to score, followed by an error that allowed another run to score, a 2 RBI single by Pimentel and another fielding error that brought in UNLV's sixth run.
James Hitt (1-0) earned his first win of the season after throwing 2.0 innings of relief and allowing only two hits with two strikeouts.
Nick Rupp (1-2) suffered his second loss of the season after pitching 1.2 innings of relief, allowing two runs and two hits with one strikeout.
UP NEXT: UNLV will conclude the two-game series against Oklahoma Wednesday, with first pitch slated for 11 a.m. (PT).
