Rebels Defeat Lions, 12-8

LOS ANGELES (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team defeated Loyola Marymount 12-8 during the first of a two-game, non-conference series Monday night at George C. Page Stadium. 

The Scarlet & Gray improved to 13-17, while the Lions dropped to 17-13. 

REBEL OF THE GAME: Jacob Sharp was perfect at the plate, going 5-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: LMU held a 1-0 lead going into the top of the third inning before the Rebels scored four runs on five hits, including back-to-back RBI doubles from Noah Rodriguez and Sharp to put UNLV up three. The Rebels plated another run in the top of the fourth with an RBI single from Rylan Charles before the Lions answered back in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single of their own from Dylan Dennis. UNLV increased its advantage to 11-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, before a two-run double from Robbie Ayers in the seventh followed by an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth closed the deficit to six. The Rebels plated another run in the top of the ninth with a sacrifice fly from Charles, only for the Lions to score two more runs on three hits in the bottom of the frame for the final margin. 

Josh Sharman (4-1) secured his fourth win of the season for UNLV after allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.

David Watson (0-2) was saddled with the loss for LMU after pitching 2.2 innings and allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts. 

UP NEXT: UNLV will conclude the series Tuesday afternoon at George C. Page Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
