LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — Three home runs powered California's offense as the Golden Bears beat UNLV 12-4 in six innings Friday night at Eller Media Stadium.
Cal's first six batters reached base as the Bears put a 3 on the scoreboard in their first time at the plate. Another three runs crossed in the second on Acacia Anders' home run.
UNLV's
April Visser homered to lead off the bottom of the second but Cal's Kacey Zobac answered back with a leadoff home run to start the third.Â
In the bottom of the third,
Janyssa Martin sparked the embers of a rally with a two-run home run to put the Rebels within 4. But UNLV stranded two baserunners after Cal's Annabel Teperson (W, 8-3) punched out two to end the inning.
In the fifth, Elon Butler followed Makena Smith's double with a two-out home run, increasing the Bears' lead to 9-3.
UNLV and Cal return Saturday at 3 p.m. for the second contest of the three-game series.
