Rebels Fall To Spartans, 7-3

SAN JOSE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team came up short against San Jose State 7-3 during the second game of a three-game Mountain West series Saturday afternoon at Excite Ballpark.

The Rebels dropped to 14-19 and 7-10 in the MW, while the Spartans improved to 17-13 and 10-4 in league play. 

REBEL OF THE GAME: Edarian Williams went 1-for-3 at the plate with a two-run triple. 

BACK AND FORTH: UNLV took the lead early in the top of the first inning with the two-run triple from Williams. The Rebels plated another run in the top of the second with an RBI single from Santino Panaro before the Spartans answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning with back-to-back RBI singles to bring them within one.

TURNING POINT: UNLV held a one-run lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning, but San Jose State scored five runs on four hits including a two-run double from Dalton Bowling to take control.

Nathan Hansen (2-0) secured the win for the Spartans after pitching 2.0 innings of relief and not allowing a run or a hit.

Jack Sellinger (2-1) was saddled with the loss for UNLV after allowing five runs on six hits with four strikeouts in three innings of relief.

UP NEXT: UNLV will conclude the series Sunday afternoon at Excite Ballpark with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
