SAN JOSE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team dropped the series finale against San Jose State 10-3 Sunday afternoon at Excite Ballpark.
The Rebels fell to 14-20 and 7-11 in the MW, while the Spartans improved to 18-13 and 11-4 in league play.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Jacob Sharp went 1-for-3 at the plate with his seventh home run of the season.
BACK AND FORTH: UNLV jumped out to an early lead after a home run from Sharp followed by an RBI single from Kade Higgins in the top of the first inning. However, San Jose State answered back in the bottom of the frame with back-to-back home runs from Jack Colette and Charles McAdoo.
TURNING POINT: With the score tied at 2 going into the bottom of the fourth, a two-run triple from Colette, followed by a run brought in on a throwing error by Higgins and a home run from Dalton Bowling put the Spartans up for good.
Keaton Chase (3-0) secured the win for the Spartans after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing three runs on five hits.
Joey Acosta (1-3) was saddled with the loss for UNLV after allowing five runs on four hits with six strikeouts in five innings of relief.
UP NEXT: UNLV will return to Las Vegas and Earl E. Wilson Stadium for a three-game, nonconference series against California Baptist set to begin Friday, April 21 at 6:05 p.m.
