LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team came up short to California Baptist 8-7 in 10 innings during the second game of a three-game non-conference series Saturday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
The Rebels dropped to 14-22, while the Lancers improved to 21-18.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Rylan Charles went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a triple and two runs scored.
BACK AND FORTH: UNLV took an early lead with a solo home run from Kade Higgins in the bottom of the second inning. The Rebels added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single from Charles followed by an RBI by Jacob Sharp. CBU answered in the top of the fourth by scoring five runs on six hits, including an RBI double from Josh Paino, to take a two-run lead. The Lancers increased their advantage to 7-3 going into the bottom of the fifth, before the Rebels rallied with a pair of back-to-back RBI singles from Noah Rodriguez and Austin Kryszczuk. UNLV tied it in the eighth inning on a fielding error by CBU's shortstop.
EXTRA INNING WIN FOR CBU: With the score tied at seven going into the top of the 10th inning, an RBI single from Mitchel Simon proved to be the game-winner.
Seth Mattox (2-2) secured the win for the Lancers after pitching 1.2 innings of hitless relief.
Ryan Delgado (S,2) earned the save for CBU after pitching a perfect 10th inning.
Jack Selinger (2-2) was saddled with the loss for UNLV after allowing one run on one hit in 2.2 Innings of relief.
UP NEXT: UNLV will conclude the series Sunday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
