OMAHA, Neb. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team fell to Creighton 8-7 during the series finale Wednesday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
The Rebels dropped to 16-23, while the Bluejays improved to 19-15.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Jacob Sharp went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and one run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The game was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the third inning when Creighton took the lead with two runs on four hits. The Rebels answered back to take the lead in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single from Alex Pimentel, followed by an RBI double from Sharp, a sacrifice fly from Kade Higgins and a run scored on an error by Creighton's shortstop. UNLV plated an additional run in the top of the seventh with an RBI single from Sharp. The Bluejays answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame and brought in the tying run with an RBI single from Andrew Meggs in the bottom of the eighth.
WALK-OFF WIN FOR CREIGHTON: Jack Grace broke a 7-7 tie in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off RBI single.
Tommy Steier (5-0) secured the win for Creighton after allowing only one hit in 1.1 innings of relief.
Joey Acosta (1-4) was saddled with the loss for UNLV after throwing 2.1 innings of relief and allowing two runs on three hits.
UP NEXT: UNLV will head over to the Golden State for a three-game Mountain West series against San Diego State (16-21, 10-6 MW) scheduled to begin Friday evening at 6 p.m.
