Rebels Drop Game One To Aztecs

SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team fell to San Diego State 4-2 during game one of a three-game Mountain West series Friday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

The Rebels dropped to 16-24 and 7-12 in the MW, while the Aztecs improved to 17-21 and 11-6 in league play. 

REBEL OF THE GAME: Alex Pimentel went 1-for-3 at the plate with his second home run of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED: UNLV jumped out to an early lead after a wild pitch in the top of the second inning brought in a run. The Rebels increased their advantage to 2-0 after Pimentel's homer in the top of the third. San Diego State answered back in the bottom of the frame with a two-run home run from Poncho Ruiz to tie it at two runs apiece. 

TURNING POINT: TJ Fondtain put the Aztecs up for good in the fourth inning, breaking a 2-2 tie with a home run. 

TJ Fondtain (5-2) secured the win for SDSU after allowing two runs on three hits in six innings of work.  

Noah Carabajal (1-6) was saddled with the loss for UNLV after throwing 4.1 innings and allowing four runs on four hits. 

UP NEXT: UNLV will continue the series Saturday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium with first pitch slated for 6 p.m.
